CP53/CP54/CP55 MIL Spec Capacitors

Type CP53, CP54, and CP55 capacitors are manufactured to meet or exceed the requirements of MIL-C-25/4D. Chicago Condenser Corporation’s CP53, CP54, and CP55 capacitors are manufactured using the highest quality Kraft paper impregnated and filled with a premium dielectric fluid. The capacitors employ windings housed in a hermetically sealed drawn metal case with non-removable solder lug terminals insulated with silicone rubber bushings. For applications which do not require MIL Spec certification, improved capacitor performance can be obtained by substituting more modern winding materials (polyester, polypropylene, etc.) for paper.

CP53, CP54, and CP55 capacitors are built to a venerable MIL Spec which requires the use of very old technology (paper windings). For this reason, these capacitors are not recommended for commercial applications, where more modern winding materials, such as polyester and polypropylene, either metalized or wound with foil, will provide improved capacitor characteristics, greater reliability, and usually at lower cost. Chicago Condenser Corporation maintains an expert engineering staff which is ready to work with you in order to develop a custom capacitor around your requirements. Chicago Condenser Corporation’s free design service can optimize the many factors which affect performance to provide a capacitor which best meets your needs.

The case sizes listed are those required by MIL-C-25/4D for CP53, CP54, and CP55 capacitors. The case sizes are not necessarily the smallest possible for a given capacitor, if MIL Spec certification is not required. For non-MIL Spec applications, the use of more modern winding materials than paper can affect substantial reductions in capacitor size and improvements in capacitor properties. If size and shape are critical to your application, Chicago Condenser Corporation will be pleased to work with you to optimize a capacitor to your needs. A wide range of can sizes in several styles is available. If the revised design employs a stock can, no cost penalty should be incurred. If a custom can is required, cost depends heavily on quantity.

CP53, CP54, and CP55 capacitors are normally impregnated and filled with dielectric grade mineral oil or a synthetic dielectric fluid.
